Dillinger   1930 Ford A Dillinger
This 1930 Ford Model A was used in the 2009 movie "Public Enemies" about John Dillinger. In the movie it replayed the very same roll  it played when the real John Dillinger made a getaway in the epic gun battle with his gang and the FBI from the Little Bohemia Lodge in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, on April 22, 1934 in this very same car.

Dillinger, Homer Van Meter and John "Red" Hamilton, his two top lieutenants, eluded law enforcement and drove to Hastings, Minn., over 200 miles away from the Lodge. There, they were once again identified and fled in a high-speed pursuit. Hamilton was fatally shot in the hail of gunfire. Dillinger, it is said, smashed the Ford's rear window with his Thompson and sprayed his pursuers with bullets as he escaped.

Heading for Chicago, they dumped the bullet-riddled Model A in favor of a stolen 1934 Ford V-8. Three months later, Dillinger was killed as he exited the Biograph Theater in Chicago.

Bullet-pocked and blood-stained, the Ford was impounded by the police. Files from the Division of Investigation (now FBI) identified it as "1930 Ford coupe, 4 cylinder, Model A, Wisconsin license #92652, Motor #2980001."

The Model A was eventually returned to its owner who determined that it wasn't worth repairing and parked it for nearly three decades.

The Ford was carefully restored in 2007 to appear in "Public Enemies", preserving the original bullet holes and dimples under body filler.

The car was sold at auction January 23, 2009 in Scottsdale, Ariz., for $165,000. The buyer is not being identified.

Pink Panther

Pink Panther
PINK PANTHER car from the cartoon show which featured on our TV screens from the late 1960’s. This superb piece of craftsmanship from respected Hollywood builder Jay Ohrberg

It was the car which was seen at the beginning and the end of the show featuring a rather seventies looking kid in a stripey tee shirt and an over sized helmet driving the legendary beast with Sir Pink himself sitting in the back.

The actual car was an extended 23ft (7m) 1969 Oldsmobile Toronado, complete in gawdy pink from outside to inside. Quite the eye catcher but not something you could be seen driving backwards and forwards to work in, and forget trying to pick the kids up from school - there just isn't enough room for the little darlings.

Built in 1969, it is the only one of it's kind. There were no replicas made for the opening and closing credits of the cartoon series and although it has been collecting dust over recent years, it has made an appearance and various events recently to raise money for certain charities.

Made and designed by Californian car customiser Jay Ohrberg, it's sister was the equally legendary Batmobile, featured in the 1992 film "Batman Returns."

Thunderbirds Fab 1

fab 1
In the live-action film Thunderbirds (2004) the overly pink car had six wheels and a glass canopy. The Ford Motor Company supplied the prop - a heavily modified 23 foot long Ford Thunderbird.

In the movie the boot panels would open to expose the gas turbine engine before flight and wings would extend from the undercarriage. During flight, the rear set of wheels folds into the vehicle's body completely. This prevents them from creating unnecessary drag and so slowing the aircraft down.
Skis for going over heavy snow are also added to the vehicle. The bullet-proof, run-flat tires are fitted with studs in order to give extra traction.
The central passenger compartment of FAB1 doubles as an emergency life raft in the event of an emergency at sea. Buoyancy tanks hidden in the body panelling ensure that the compartment remains afloat after it has broken away from the rest of the vehicle.

Sadly the real FAB 1 cannot fly or float like it does in the movie, but it is an impressive and original vehicle nonetheless.
