National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is a certification group that certifies professionals in the automotive repair and service industry. It is an independent, non-profit organization which was created in 1972 to help distinguish between incompetent and competent automotive technicians. It originally went by the acronym of NIASE but later shortened to ASE. ASE's mission is to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service through the testing and certification of repair and service professionals. At present, about 400,000 professionals hold current certifications. They work in every segment of the automotive service industry: car and truck dealerships, independent repair garages, and more. ASE-certified professionals usually wear blue and white ASE insignia patches. They are required to undergo retesting every five years to renew their certifications in each area of auto repair and service. Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition Program ASE later took their responsibility one step further by offering a recognition opportunity for highly qualified repair facilities, which allows them to showcase their technicians and their commitment to excellence. It is called the Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition Program. The program’s emphasis is to identify establishments with a large percentage of ASE-certified professionals. The business receiving this award must reapply for this every year. |
